Important Update October 2026

Squarespace October 2026 Update

Everything you need to know about Squarespace's core editor changes and how to ensure your existing Redesignee widgets continue working smoothly.

What Changed?

In October 2026, Squarespace released a major update to its Fluid Engine editor that automatically sanitizes and removes custom scripts from Markdown Blocks. Because older Redesignee widgets relied on Markdown Blocks, widgets added before this update will no longer execute JavaScript or display the Customize button.

The Solution: Transition to Code Blocks

Redesignee now natively uses Squarespace Code Blocks instead of Markdown Blocks. If you have an existing widget that stopped functioning, you do not need to rebuild it—simply move the existing snippet into a Code Block. Redesignee will automatically detect it and attach the visual editor controls.

1
Copy the Existing Widget Code

Enter Edit Mode on your Squarespace page and double-click your existing widget's Markdown block to open its editor.

Select all code (Ctrl + A or Cmd + A) and copy it to your clipboard.

2
Add a New Code Block

In the same section, click Add Block and select Code (represented by the </> icon).

Ensure the block settings are configured as:

  • Mode: HTML
  • Display Source Code: Toggled OFF (disabled)
3
Paste Snippet & Remove the Old Markdown Block

Paste the code you copied in Step 1 into the new Code Block, then delete the old Markdown block from the section.

Adjust the grid boundaries of your new Code Block to fit your desired layout, then click Save at the top of the page.

4
Automatic Customizer Detection

You're all set! Redesignee's background script will automatically recognize the widget inside the Code Block. When hovering over the block in Squarespace Edit Mode, the Customize button will appear as normal.

Adding New Widgets Moving Forward

Any new widgets added via the Redesignee "Add Widget" browser or block menu are automatically created using Code Blocks. No manual intervention is needed for newly added widgets.
